  • The Value of Collaboration Narratives from Kathabi
Kathabi is a multidisciplinary collaboration of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Philippines and the Revival Dye Cooperative. It is a partnership among the staff, students and alumni of both educational institutions which culminates in a dance theatre performance adapted from the Itneg tribe’s folktales about the origins of weaving. This performance brings together dance, fashion, music, and the Itneg tribe and allows stakeholders to explore the creative and ethical possibilities of balancing traditional and contemporary perspectives while instilling humanistic values to all the participants.

  • 0.01 Closing the Gap during the Pandemic
Closing the Gap is the journey of an institution performance. In each step, the distance increases. Closing the Gap is a dream by two artists, painted by thirteen actors/dancers/youths/people. In trying to close the gap between the performer and the audience, various strategies were employed for this project, technically and artistically. Reality reflects art, art reflects reality. During this crisis 危机, an opportunity is found, and the moment is seized.

  • Javanese Gamelan Old-New World
Gamelan has fascinated musicians and composers since the 19th Century, beginning with Debussy, and much has been shared, documented, or researched about it – the “old”, or more accurately, the known aspects of gamelan. With this presentation, “new”, refers not just to the potential promises to teach and learn gamelan, but also in the newness of students’ experiences, since most would have first encounters with the gamelan in their musical training here in NAFA.
